Jarrod specialises in class 4 gambling issues.  He has a national practice and currently acts for over three quarters of New Zealand’s gaming trusts.


Jarrod has argued many successful Gambling Commission appeals and is familiar with all the Commission’s prior decisions and High Court and Court of Appeal decisions on class 4 matters.


Jarrod has weekly dealings with the Department of Internal Affairs’ senior gambling compliance management team.

Alastair Sherriff – Peer Reviewer

Alastair has more than 40 years’ legal experience advising the hospitality sector in New Zealand.  He has represented entertainment operators, trade associations, brewers, wholesalers and retailers, caterers, stadia, territorial local authorities, restaurants and clubs.  He helped establish Pub Charity for HANZ, which obtained the first DIA licence to operate gaming machines in New Zealand in 1988.  


He continues to advise several class 4 gambling operators in relation to compliance, licensing, investigation, governance and audit matters involving the Department, and in litigation concerning the Department or third parties.


Alastair is co-author of the textbook Sale of Alcohol published by Thomson Reuters.
